Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to typical questions asked
To see all of our scheduled workshops, hours and events, go to our calendar. Select a workshop and RSVP to reserve your seat.
What is glass fusing?
Glass fusing is where you start with a base layer of cold sheet glass and add other glass pieces and elements on top. After your design is complete, we fire it in our kilns based on your chosen texture and shape and you have a functional piece of art.
Do you offer introductory workshops?
Our PYOP (Pick Your Own Project) is suitable for all levels, especially the first time fusers. Show up a little early to look around as we give a 30 min introduction to glass at the beginning of the workshop. We will show examples, how fused glass behaves and how to cut glass. After the presentation, you choose your project size and start creating.
After you have taken a workshop with us, the next time you come in, you have the choice to start on your project right away as you are familiar with the process.
How do I sign up for a workshop?
Go to the Calendar and select a date that works for you. RSVP with the number of seats you want and show up to the workshop. If you need to cancel for any reason, please call or email us with your name and date so we can let others join.
How long is a workshop?
Our workshops typically run 2.5 hours with the first 30 mins. being an introduction to glass presentation. We will explain different glass elements, samples and cutting techniques then let you decide what you want to create.
What if I don't have a design idea in mind?
We have lots of samples and ideas for you to get inspiration from. Even random pieces of colored glass make a great design and you decide where to place them.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes, age 12 and older, as at that age they can sit through the instruction, use the tools and understand that glass is sharp. Again, we have Band-Aids.
Can I bring in food?
Glass and food don’t mix. Drinks of your choice with lids are ok but no food unless you reserve a private workshop with 20+ people, then food can be brought in (but no nuts please).
Do you offer flameworking?
Yes. We mainly offer fusing workshops where you start with flat pieces of cold glass and layer them for your design. Flameworking is where you have an open flame on a torch and hold two rods of glass in the flame to melt and manipulate the glass rods into pendants and figurines. See the Calendar for upcoming frameworking workshops where you create a specific item but learn the feel of melting glass.
Do you offer glass blowing?
No, yes, kind of…
We currently offer Glaskolben workshops where you will fill a glass tube with frit (crushed glass) and heat over an open flame. Once the tube is glowing, you blow into it to expand the bubble and create an ornament or plant watering vessel. If none of these workshops are scheduled, and you have 4-6 people, call us to schedule your own. (Cost = $100 each and you each get 5 Glaskolben tubes)
Traditional glass blowing on a pipe and 2000 degree furnace is coming later in the fall timeframe.
